The Federal Railroad Administration intends to award a sole source contract to Duos Technologies, Inc. to procure a Mobile Railcar Inspection Portal (m-RIP) system and associated commercial services. This acquisition supports the agency’s Safety Test Pilot Program by establishing a Solution-as-a-Service model to evaluate the effectiveness of automated inspection technology. The project is classified under NAICS 488210, Support Activities for Rail Transportation, and PSC AS11, TRANSPORTATION R&D SERVICES; SURFACE TRANSPORTATION, PUBLIC TRANSIT, AND RAIL; BASIC RESEARCH. Performance will take place in Florida to validate the system's ability to identify mechanical defects on rolling stock in live operational railroad environments.
The m-RIP is a proprietary, integrated hardware-and-software platform designed to capture high-resolution imagery of moving railcars and apply automated analytics for safety research. The agency determined through market research that Duos Technologies is the only provider of a mobile portal capable of meeting high-speed, high-resolution requirements, as other available solutions are stationary or lack automated imaging capabilities. The anticipated award date for this action is June 1, 2026, and the notice is categorized under the SBA SBA set-aside.
