The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Strategic Materials office issued this Request for Information (RFI) on behalf of the DLA Warstopper Program to gather industry data for establishing a magnesium buffer. As the Department of Defense’s primary industrial readiness program for consumable surge and sustainment requirements, the Warstopper Program is tasked with ensuring a viable industrial base for go-to-war items during transitions from peacetime to wartime operations. The program specifically targets mission-critical items managed by the DLA that exhibit significant disparities between peacetime and wartime demand, long production lead times, or limited shelf lives.
The DLA Warstopper Directorate seeks detailed information regarding magnesium material specifications, demand forecasts, and supply chain logistics to mitigate risks of industrial base shortfalls. Interested parties are asked to provide data on magnesium grades and forms utilized for DPAS-rated orders, current and five-year projected demand, procurement lead times, and the impact of minimum order quantities. The RFI also requests information on internal safety stocks, scrap management practices, and specific products with surge requirements that could be jeopardized by extended lead times. This inquiry is for planning purposes only and does not constitute a commitment to contract for any supply or service.
