View moreThe US Navy and US Coast Guard currently have several classes of ships with Gun Weapon Systems (GWS) using MK20 MOD 1 Electro-Optical Sight Systems (EOSS). The current EOSS imposes obsolescence risks and issues which are exacerbated by the limitation of sources and current architecture. Updated performance criteria are needed for incorporation including Modular Open System Architecture (MOSA), Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF), and Motion Industry Standards Board (MISB) standards.
RFI 26-01 contains more information can be found on the EMC2 website.
All interested parties should visit the EMC2 website at https://emccrane.org/ to become a member of the consortium to view the upcoming RFS on or around 30 June 2026. The RFS will not be available for viewing until or around June 2026.

The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) issued this special notice regarding an upcoming Request for Solutions (RFS) for the replacement of the MK20 MOD 1 Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) Sight System (EOSS). The U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard utilize these systems within Gun Weapon Systems across several ship classes, but the current EOSS configuration presents obsolescence risks and architectural limitations. The government intends to incorporate updated performance criteria into the replacement system, including Modular Open System Architecture (MOSA), improved Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) ratings, and Motion Imagery Standards Board (MISB) standards.
The government plans to evaluate proposals with the intent of awarding a Project Order under the Expeditionary Missions Consortium (EMC2) Other Transaction Agreement (OTA) in accordance with 10 U.S.C. § 4022. Participation is restricted to members of the EMC2 consortium. The anticipated release date for the RFS via the consortium portal is June 30, 2026, which aligns with the response deadline. This requirement is identified by solicitation number N0016426SNB77 and is classified under NAICS 541715 for Research and Development in the Physical, Engineering, and Life Sciences (except Nanotechnology and Biotechnology) and PSC AC13 for National Defense R&D Services; Department of Defense - Military; Experimental Development.
Performance will take place in Crane, Indiana, under the management of an NSWC Crane Project Manager. Mark Dravet is the designated point of contact for this notice.
