IGF::OT::IGF THE GOAL OF THIS PHASE III - IIE PROJECT IS TO BUILD A PROTOTYPE INFRARED DIODE LASER-BASED SENSOR FOR SPECIFIC DETECTION OF FORMALDEHYDE AND THEN INTEGRATE IT INTO A NANORACK FOR FLIGHT TESTING ON THE ISS. A SECOND, GROUND-BASED, ENGINEERING DEVELOPMENT UNIT (EDU) WILL BE DELIVERED TO JSC AS WELL. MUCH OF THE HARDWARE (OPTICAL CELL AND DSP CONTROL) AND SOFTWARE REQUIRED TO ACCOMPLISH THESE GOALS DERIVE DIRECTLY FROM THE ORIGINAL GLENN PHASE II SBIR (NASA CONTRACT NNX13CC08C). THE RESULTS OF THIS PROGRAM WILL SIGNIFICANTLY GET US CLOSER TO THE GOAL OF POSITIONING A REAL-TIME FORMALDEHYDE SENSOR IN THE INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION AND FUTURE MANNED SPACECRAFT. THIS PROTOTYPE ANALYZER IS BEING CONFIGURED FOR A NANORACK DEPLOYMENT TO TEST AND EVALUATE THE POTENTIAL FOR A FINAL ISS FORMALDEHYDE INSTRUMENT. IN OUR ORIGINAL PROPOSAL FOR THE PHASE IIE/III SBIR PROJECT, THE RESULTS WERE TO BE DISPLAYED IN REAL TIME ON THE ANALYZER DISPLAY SCREEN AND TRANSMITTED LIVE VIA RS-232 (USB) TO THE ISS FOR DOWNLOAD TO EARTH. AFTER THE PROJECT BEGAN, WE WERE REQUESTED TO ADDITIONALLY PROVIDE REAL-TIME WIFI CAPABILITY TO THE INSTRUMENTS. THIS MODIFICATION TO THE CONTRACT IS TO INCLUDE THE WIFI CAPABILITY FOR THE INSTRUMENT.
